Crumbs addresses the challenge by automatically investing small amounts of your money into a diversified portfolio using its proprietary AI. Research

We shadowed and interviewed people, trying to understand people's financial patterns and how they have conducted investments. We visited many of the Manhattan stations to used it for ourselves to be in the shoes of first-time users and to observe foot traffic

Initial Findings

Millenials are very stressed towards financial savings and how to invest with a lot of apprehension towards how to structure their savings

Rise of Crypto

Suddenly, interest in investing in crypto assets has risen, but knowledge of how to invest and minimize losses is very low among millennials. Over 60 percent of youth and young adults have no clue about how to invest.

Problem Statement

How can we create an investing mobile application that enables young people to invest and help in enabling a stress-sustainable environment around crypto assests and money in general

Competitive Analysis

The primary objectives of the Crumbs team are to organize these recommendations and make them as stress-free as possible. As illustrated in the graphic, key features currently on the market include robo-investments, spare change contributions, and regular deposits.

Choosing a Research Method

With a minimal budget for research, we had to develop the design from scratch. To gain insights, we organized focus groups and semi-structured interviews with Millennials to understand their perspectives and create a comprehensive picture of their needs and preferences.

In-depth Analysis of the user group

We conducted a series of user interviews to gain a comprehensive understanding of how Millennials perceive investing. Our goal was to identify key concerns and root causes related to their investment behaviors. Recognizing that Millennials will navigate various life stages, we focused on minimizing fear and stress associated with investing.

Branding and Visual Design

The initial focus was on branding and visual design. I collaborated with the team to define the branding strategy and key elements that Crumbs should represent. We chose green as the primary branding color, and the logo was crafted to reflect the company's mission of investing small amounts into diverse opportunities. The hourglass symbol in the logo represents the concept of time and investment, offering a minimalistic yet clear visual identity

Ideation & Wireframing

So to build the app design, the user flows and initial wireframes were created based on certain ideas of how the app was envisioned.

Some initial wireframes were constructed, and then the high-fidelity design was built based on multiple iterations and feedback from the stakeholders, the CEO, and the CTO.

The wireframes were mapped out with respect to the key functions of the app. The main goal of constructing the wireframes the way they are is to ensure consistency and efficiency across all the screens of the app. 

Initial UI Design

As a sole designer, I created the designs for both the mobile app and the website for Crumbs. The main product for crumbs is the mobile app, and the website that was built was mainly intended for the purpose of marketing and advertising what Crumbs, as a company, gives value to. When rolling out all the screens, careful attention was paid so that the color hierarchies were respected. White space was used generously to keep the layouts uncluttered and to balance out the vibrancy.

Usability Testing

To better understand the app's various features and gain insight into how users felt about the app overall, a round of user testing was carried out. The key metrics that are being monitored are

- Efficiency

- Ease of use

- Navigation

- Task success Rate

The key tasks that were monitored were 

- Dashboard

- Setting up a bank account

- Investment and portfolio Screen

Usability testing was conducted. About 6 partcipants were part of te study and the key feedbck was tabulated and analysed

Final UI Design

As a result, I have created an improved layout and design based on the feedback from the pilot signups. We had significant data points to analyze on what exactly is the user looking for,

Main Lessons Learned

Time management: When working alone, it is crucial to manage time effectively. I had to handle all aspects of the project, from research to design, and from client, communication to project delivery. Therefore, you must manage your time effectively to complete each task on time.

Prioritization: Prioritizing tasks is essential when working alone. Setting priorities might help you stay on schedule by preventing delays. Communication with stakeholders is necessary to get their opinions and make sure the project is moving forward.

Communication: Communication is critical when working alone as a designer. Working alone can be challenging, and it is essential to stay motivated.

Multitasking: As a sole designer, you have to wear many hats. You must be proficient in multiple disciplines, from research and analysis to design
